Activa entre 1896 y 1909, reemplazó a la Issler´s Orchestra como formación residente de Columbia Phonograph. Dirigida hasta 1902-3 por el cantante, compositor y director Frederick W. Hager (1874-1958), responsable la Edison Concert Band y director de la Hager´s Orchestra, fue más tarde el director musical de Columbia, Charles Adam Prince (San Francisco, 1869-1937), pianista y director de orquesta, quien se hace cargo de la formación, dirigiéndola hasta 1905, cuando forma su propio grupo, la Prince´s Band, con la que mantendrá un repertorio muy similar al de la Columbia Orchestra/Columbia Band, cuya dirección pasará al cornetista Tom Clark.
La formación grabó más de 200 títulos en cilindro (bloque 15000-15233) y en discos planos. De hecho el primer disco plano editado por Columbia, "In The Clock Store", fue un tema interpretado por la Columbia Orchestra.
