Considerado el mejor bajo de su época, grabó asiduamente para diversas compañías, entre ellas Columbia, Victor y Zonophone, entre 1901 y 1910, tanto en solitario como a dúo (con Corinne Morgan, Grace Nelson, Elise Stevenson, Harry Macdonough, Byron G. Harlan, Henry Burr). También formó parte del Metropolitan Trio (junto con Stevenson y Burr), el Columbia Quartet, el Trinity Choir (Lyric Quartet, donde coincide con Macdonough) y el Peerless Quartet, reemplazando en 1906 a Tom Daniels (bajo) y asumiendo el liderazgo del grupo.
